BCCI Issues Statement on DC vs PBKS Cancellation: “Everyone’s Safety Is Our Priority”

    May 9, 20252 Mins Read

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued an official statement following the unexpected cancellation of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). The match, originally scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, was called off due to unforeseen circumstances, prompting concern among fans and players alike.

In its statement, the BCCI emphasized that the decision was taken in the interest of safety and well-being for all stakeholders, including players, match officials, support staff, and spectators.

“The safety of everyone involved in the IPL remains our top priority,” the BCCI said. “Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, the match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings has been cancelled. We regret the inconvenience caused to fans but believe this was the most responsible course of action.”

While the board has not officially confirmed the exact reason behind the cancellation, sources close to the matter suggest it could be related to a potential security threat or logistical disruption in the capital. Delhi Police had reportedly advised heightened caution around the venue earlier in the day.

The Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings franchises also issued separate statements supporting the BCCI’s decision. DC captain Rishabh Pant tweeted, “Disappointed not to play in front of our home fans today, but your safety and ours is most important. We’ll be back stronger.”

The BCCI also announced that ticket holders will receive full refunds and that the IPL schedule would proceed as planned for the upcoming matches. Whether the cancelled match will be rescheduled remains unclear.

Cricket fans across the country have reacted with a mix of disappointment and understanding, with many praising the BCCI for prioritizing safety over sport.

As the IPL 2025 season heads into a critical phase, the incident serves as a reminder that while the game is a source of joy and unity, it must never come at the cost of security and well-being.
