Sonu Nigam Brings Up ‘Pahalgam’ Incident During Concert, Says He Felt ‘Threatened’ by Kannada Fan

adminBy adminMay 1, 20252 Mins Read

Renowned Indian playback singer Sonu Nigam recently opened up about a troubling experience during one of his concerts, referencing a past incident in Pahalgam and sharing how he felt “threatened” by a fan from Karnataka during a recent show.

While performing at a packed concert in Mumbai, Nigam briefly paused between songs to share a candid moment with the audience. “There was a time in Pahalgam where I felt truly unsafe,” he recalled, alluding to an earlier reported confrontation that left a lasting impression on him. Though he didn’t go into full detail, his words suggested a situation that went beyond typical fan frenzy.

More surprisingly, he then addressed an unsettling encounter with a fan from Karnataka during a separate recent event. “A fan became aggressive, insisting I sing in Kannada and making me feel threatened on stage,” Nigam said, adding that while he respects all languages and performs in many, no artist should be coerced or intimidated.

Sonu Nigam, known for his calm demeanor and multilingual singing across Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and other languages, emphasized the need for mutual respect in fan-artist relationships. “Music is meant to unite, not divide. I’ve sung in Kannada for decades with love, but when love turns into force, it breaks that bond.”

The singer’s comments have sparked fresh discussions about regionalism in the Indian music industry. Many fans and fellow musicians have since come forward on social media, expressing support for Nigam and condemning any kind of fan aggression or regional coercion.

Nigam concluded his statement by reminding fans, “I’m here to sing for you, not to choose sides. Let music remain a bridge, not a battleground.”
